More disposable camera pictures. An elderly sushi chef was pretty impressed with my disposable camera. Gained street cred, a pity I don’t speak enough Japanese to tell him I don’t do this all the time. Japan didn’t disappoint – is it even possible to be disappointed ? Always a first for everything – from sashimi for breakfast (strange to begin with but BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS YES) and post-dinner snack* of zaru soba from a ticket vending machine. I don’t even know where to begin, you are so full of tasty meals, Japan !

* There is no such thing as one too many meals in Japan.

I have resisted Japan for a long time, to the point of almost forgetting how obsessed I was with Japanese pop culture when I was in my teens. Like Europe, I’ve always imagined visiting Japan when I would be older (and with more money in my pockets). I’m not sure why I always end up with camera malfunctions when I travel. It’s so stressful running around trying to find disposable cameras but, fine, on hindsight, I wouldn’t have scored these analog pics otherwise. I love how Japan wasn’t all bright and shiny in them – grittier and that 80s feel, just brilliant.

It wasn’t so long ago when the sun was blazing hot and I was complaining how Europe wasn’t equipped to withstand the summer heat. I think I can definitely get used to summer holidays in France.

Sorry we’re closed

A change of plans last minute after C came down with a bad case of food poisoning from oysters the night before. J and I made our way over to Annecy on the last day of the year only to find out the two authorized retailers which sell Opinel knives were closed.
