On hindsight, it probably wasn’t the best day for a day out with the parents.

Expo #1: On architecture

Headed to the Expo during my last week in Shanghai because my sister was in town. Surprisingly, it didn’t turn out half as bad as I’d expected. It was rather enjoyable partly because we refused to join the ridiculous two/three-hour queues to enter popular pavilions (the longest we’d queued that day: five minutes for Iran) and so visited more pavilions than we thought possible in a single day: DPRK, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Lithuania, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Algeria.

Here’s some of the pavilions which caught my eye (and which happen to photograph well).

Old-school in Barcelona

While most visitors to Barcelona talk endlessly about its modernisme architecture, what I enjoyed most was in fact its everyday buildings which still manage to look modern and contemporary today after so many years.
