Haw Par Villa

It’s the first time I’ve been back in years and I can safely say the Ten Courts of Hell no longer intimidate me now. On the other hand, the dioramas are as freaky as they are amazing both then and now.

there used to be a Haw Par Villa in Hong Kong as well, but it is now some ‘luxury apartment’ at where it used to be in Tai Hang.

doublexuan – Haha, that one was just along the path, wasn’t the kind that is inside dioramas one has to illegally sneak into (saw people doing that when I was there, not nice) !

Mel – Ack, I read about the one in Hong Kong. I thought it still exists as a private garden, open by appointments only. Had planned to visit one day.

  6. the mansion is still there, but all the “scary parts” are gone … now “luxurious apartments” …

notabilia – Happy that you love the freak-o-quirky-mania that is HPV. That picture was also an embarrassing reminder of how I was ridiculously overdressed (like typical Chinese tourists) at HPV – qipao and heels do not make the most appropriate/ comfortable outfit but I had no choice as we were to head to a family friend’s place for some CNY visiting directly after.
