I have resisted Japan for a long time, to the point of almost forgetting how obsessed I was with Japanese pop culture when I was in my teens. Like Europe, I’ve always imagined visiting Japan when I would be older (and with more money in my pockets). I’m not sure why I always end up with camera malfunctions when I travel. It’s so stressful running around trying to find disposable cameras but, fine, on hindsight, I wouldn’t have scored these analog pics otherwise. I love how Japan wasn’t all bright and shiny in them – grittier and that 80s feel, just brilliant.

  1. It’s interesting – without the one shot of the guy on the phone I wouldn’t have known these were contemporary photos.
