Usually I wouldn’t have been happy to be off on a trip the weekend before my exam, but I decided it wasn’t such a bad idea after all considering it was an oral exam and I could do with speaking French the entire weekend instead of lazing about at home watching Masterchef Australia under the pretext of last-minute revision. I haven’t been back in Montpellier in a while and I’m really glad to be able to spend time with family — I ate brandade de morue for the first time, learnt about the Vase d’Anduze (pictured) and the wonders of the humble mandoline, and was given the recipe of a delightful entrée ! For the first time in a year, I don’t seem to tire as easily speaking and listening to French all day. Could this be a turning point ? Am keeping my fingers crossed.
