Never would have thought Düsseldorf would be the place to get a decent bowl of ramen but it apparently is thanks to a tip-off from new friends at the wedding. The Japanese waitress asked if I would like my noodle portion klein or normal and was a little taken aback when I indicated that I would like groß, bitte. My tsukemen was delicious, as delicious as if I had ordered it in Japan. Düsseldorf, you may be a little dreary but you sure beat Paris hands down when it comes to ramen.

A midsummer German wedding

At the wedding, we befriended a lovely French/Taiwanese couple from Paris we hope to see again soon and the German DJ gets my thumbs up for playing this track at the post-party. It only took a trip to Germany — seeing Taiwanese girlfriends of the bride converse in fluent German with their spouses — for me to feel guilty for the first time that I’m not speaking French more often with the husband.

Glasses from the brewpub where we sipped our first Altbier, a particularly-apt Taschen book that was on sale and a fridge magnet to remember my first trip to Germany by.
